Mohamed Salah has fueled speculation about his Liverpool future with an enigmatic social media post following his match-winning performance against Brighton at Anfield.
Salah drops his plans for Liverpool contract
The Egyptian star, who propelled Liverpool to the Premier League summit with a brilliant curling shot in Saturday’s 2-1 victory, shared a message that has set fans buzzing about his plans. “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less,” Salah wrote on X. “Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
The timing of Salah’s message is particularly noteworthy as his current contract, reportedly worth £350,000 ($453,000) per week, expires at the end of this season. Come January, the 32-year-old forward will be free to negotiate with non-English clubs.
Salah on Liverpool’s victory
This isn’t the first time Salah has hinted at potential changes. After Liverpool’s 3-0 victory at Manchester United earlier this season, he told Sky Sports, “To be fair I was coming to the game, it could be the last time (playing at Old Trafford).” He also revealed that the club hadn’t yet approached him about a contract extension.
However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot appears unruffled by the contract situations of Salah and fellow stars Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose deals also expire next season. “The contract situation becomes a problem if players don’t perform as well as they are now,” Slot stated. “At the moment all three are in good places performing well.”
With nine goals this season already, Salah continues to demonstrate his invaluable worth to Liverpool’s title ambitions as they chase their first Premier League crown since 2020. Yet, his latest comments have left supporters wondering whether they’re witnessing the final chapter of his remarkable Anfield career.
