What is the RRTS?
The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a novel, high-speed, high-capacity commuter service designed to offer a reliable, high-frequency, point-to-point regional travel experience.
The introduction of RRTS promises to elevate travel comfort in Ghaziabad. The commuters have had limited options. It often battles hot and humid weather and traffic jams.

The RRTS train is with a designed speed of 180 kmph. It is tested for an operating speed of 160 kmph. It will bring down travel time significantly. The 17-kilometer journey from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot which took nearly 30-35 minutes by road can now be completed in just 12 minutes.
Stations and Integration
The 17-km priority section hosts five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. These stations are strategically integrated with existing transportation networks, including Delhi Metro stations, to provide commuters with seamless transfers and convenient connectivity.
For instance, Ghaziabad station is the highest among the stations on the Delhi-Meerut corridor. It offers a seamless link to the Shaheed Sthal Metro station on the Red Line of Delhi Metro. A similar approach has been adopted across the entire stretch.
Accessibility and Convenience
RRTS has been designed with the utmost passenger comfort in mind. The stations feature large lifts and dedicated spaces for wheelchairs. It also has provisions for stretchers inside the trains. Accessibility is a top priority. It ensures that all commuters, including those with special needs, can utilize the service.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has invited tenders for mobile coverage solutions to guarantee reliable mobile network coverage within the tunnels connecting underground stations on the RRTS corridor.
Faster Commute with Comfort
Once fully operational, RRTS will offer the convenience of a metro train with the reach and service capacity of conventional railways, bridging the gap between these two modes of transport.
The completion of the 82-km Delhi-Meerut section, estimated to cost Rs 30,000 crore, by 2025 is set to reshape commuting in the region, providing quicker, more comfortable travel options for residents and significantly reducing travel times.
