Kangana Ranaut in Legal Trouble amid ‘Emergency’ row

Kangana Ranaut, a renowned actor and BJP MP, is still shrouded under dark clouds of controversy over her upcoming film ‘Emergency’. Now, she is in legal trouble since an advocate, named Ravinder Singh Bassi – a former president of the District Bar Association, in Chandigarh filed an application claiming the actor tried to crumble the image of Sikhs in her film.

Why does Kangana Ranaut get legal notice?

Citing the reason for filing a complaint against Ranaut, the advocate said that it just not only showcases a ‘wrong image’ of the Sikhs but also features several ‘false allegations’ against the community.

Amid the registered case, the court will take up the matter again on December 5.

Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture ‘Emergency’ has become the talk of the town since Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused it of misrepresenting the community and hampering the historical facts.

Did Emergency controversy make BJP MP sell her property?

Amid the row, the BJP MP said that she was forced to sell off her Mumbai property after the film’s release was postponed due to delay in getting a censor certificate. According to the reports, she sold her bungalow at Bandra’s Pali Hill for ₹ 32 crore.

Kangana, playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’, said, “I had staked my personal property on this film, which was supposed to come in theatres. Now it is not releasing, so the property is there, to be sold off in difficult times.”

About Film Emergency

Film ‘Emergency’ is a political drama, written by Kangana herself and co-produced by Zee Studios and the actor’s Mnikarnika Films. The film is based on the Emergency imposed by the former PM, Indira Gandhi, govt. In 1975.

Apart from Kangana, the film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry and Milind Soman in lead roles.

When Kangana’s Emergency will be released?

This film was set to take the theatres last year, however, it was postponed to June this year. But luck is not on the cards for Kangana, therefore the film got postponed again to September 6 amid the Lok Sabha polls. But, with no approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), it is not clear when the movie will be released on the silver screens.

Amid the row, Zee Entertainment Enterprises approached the Bombay High Court earlier this month, seeking its intervention to clear the film for release. However, the court refused to grant any urgent relief.
