Ayushmann Khurrana’s Next: A Horror-Comedy with Dinesh Vijan – ‘Thama’

In a significant expansion of his successful horror-comedy universe, producer Dinesh Vijan has announced “Thama,” starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, set for a Diwali 2025 release. The film joins the interconnected world of “Stree,” “Bhediya,” and “Munjya,” with acclaimed director Aditya Sarpotdar at the helm.

The title teaser, shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, features Arijit Singh’s haunting vocals accompanying the intriguing tagline: “This universe needed a love story, unfortunately, it’s a bloody one.” The announcement promises a unique blend of horror-comedy with a dark romantic twist, further enhanced by the addition of veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui to the cast.

An insight into the film – Thama

Aparshakti Khurana, known for his role as Bittu in the “Stree” franchise, shared insights about his brother Ayushmann’s entry into this cinematic universe. “We had been waiting for so long to work with each other in something that’s good and what can be better than a world which has been created? Something that has never happened in Indian filmmaking where there’s this world in which so many great characters will come together and will stay in people’s hearts,” he told PTI.

Adding to the intrigue, Aparshakti hinted at the mysterious nature of their on-screen relationship: “When these characters meet up, will we be shown as brothers or not, what will happen, there are many questions.”

Thama: A new chapter in horror-comedy

The announcement follows the success of “Stree 2” and marks a new chapter in Vijan’s expanding horror-comedy universe. For Ayushmann, who was last seen in “Dream Girl 2” opposite Ananya Panday, this role represents a fresh departure into the horror-comedy genre, promising audiences a unique blend of scares and laughs with a romantic twist.

The project not only symbolizes a significant addition to India’s growing genre-blending cinema but also marks the first collaboration between real-life brothers Ayushmann and Aparshakti within this unique cinematic universe.
