‘Don’t sing songs on Drugs’: Notice to Diljit Dosanjh ahead of Hyderabad concert

In an unprecedented move, the Telangana government has issued specific performance guidelines for Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming Dil-Luminati concert in Hyderabad, scheduled for November 15, 2024. The directives specifically target content related to alcohol, drugs, and violence in his performances.

Telangana Govt. issues notice to Diljit Dosanjh

The action stems from a complaint by Chandigarh-based activist Panditrao Dharenavar, who presented video evidence of Diljit Dosanjh performing explicit content at recent concerts, including shows at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Jaipur, as part of his ongoing 11-city Dil-Luminati tour that kicked off on October 26.

The Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens of Ranga Reddy district has taken a particularly strong stance on protecting young attendees. A key stipulation in the notice addresses the presence of children at the event, citing World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines regarding sound exposure.

Here’s what the notice says to Diljit Dosanjh:

“Children should not be used on stage during your live show where peak sound pressure level is above 120db,” the official notice states, highlighting concerns about the impact of high-decibel music and strobe lighting on young audiences, particularly those under 13.

The restrictions come at a crucial time, with the Hyderabad show – Diljit Dosanjh’s third stop on the Dil-Luminati tour – nearly sold out. The singer, who has gained massive popularity across India and internationally, will need to carefully curate his setlist to comply with these new guidelines while maintaining the entertainment value his fans expect.

Concert organizers are now tasked with ensuring compliance with these directives while delivering the high-energy performance Dosanjh is known for. The situation highlights the growing tension between artistic expression and public welfare concerns in large-scale entertainment events.
