Kangana Ranaut Disappointed After Emergency Gets Postponed

On Friday, Kangana Ranaut announced via Twitter that her highly anticipated film Emergency, which has been surrounded by controversy, has been postponed. The film, in which Kangana plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was originally set to release on September 6. Sharing the news with a “heavy heart,” she expressed gratitude to her fans for their “understanding and patience.”

‘New release date to be announced soon’

Kangana took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement, stating, “With a heavy heart, I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed. We are still waiting for certification from the censor board. A new release date will be announced soon. Thank you for your understanding and patience.” The film features Anupam Kher and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.

Reactions to Kangana’s Post

Fans were quick to respond to Kangana’s update. One user on X wrote, “No need to feel sad, Kangana Ranaut. We are with you. Whenever it releases, we’ll watch and support you no matter what!” Another added, “Don’t be discouraged, sister. Keep fighting against injustice. We’re always with you.” Some were unfazed by the delay, with one user tweeting, “Super disaster movie.”

More on the Emergency Delay

The film has faced several hurdles, including backlash from Sikh groups and a delay in receiving certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Emergency, a biographical political thriller, focuses on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who declared a 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977.

Kangana had previously disclosed that the film is still awaiting certification from the CBFC. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Emergency had cleared the censor board, Kangana clarified that the certification was on hold.

Addressing the issue, she said, “There have been rumors that Emergency was certified by the Censor Board. This is not true. While the film did receive clearance from the CBFC, certification is on hold due to numerous death threats made against censor board members.”

Kangana also mentioned the pressure to remove certain scenes, including those depicting Indira Gandhi’s assassination and the Punjab riots. “I don’t know what we’re supposed to do—blackout the film during those scenes? It’s unbelievable, and I’m deeply sorry for the current state of thinking in this country,” she added.
