Mithun Da to be honoured with ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’, PM Modi extends wishes

In a dazzling twist worthy of his most iconic dance moves, Bollywood‘s original “Disco Dancer” Mithun Chakraborty, 74, is set to add another feather to his sequined cap – the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This news, dropped like a beat by Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X, has set the film fraternity grooving with joy.

Mithun Da to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

“Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations!” Vaishnaw exclaimed, probably while attempting the moonwalk.

Taking it to X, Ashwini wrote – “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.”

That’s not it, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended congratulations and bragged about Mithun’s work in Bollywood through his tweet on X, stating, “Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him.”

When will Mithun Da receive this prestigious award?

The veteran actor will strut his stuff to receive this honour at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024 – a date that’s sure to see more hip-shaking than a Bollywood dance number.

Mithun’s son, Namashi Chakraborty, couldn’t contain his excitement, telling a media house, “Feeling extremely proud and honoured. My father is a self-made superstar and a great citizen. His life journey is an inspiration for millions.” One can almost imagine little Namashi learning to disco before he could walk!

A glimpse of Disco Dancer star’s career

From his National Award-winning debut in “Mrigayaa” to creating a record by starring in over 100 films in a decade, Mithun’s career has been more action-packed than his movies. His dance moves in “I Am a Disco Dancer” and “Jimmy Jimmy” didn’t just make him popular; they probably caused a nationwide shortage of disco balls.

The man himself once prophetically told the media, “This life of mine is a hit… when the history of Indian cinema is written, I will definitely be mentioned in it.” Well, Mithun Da, it looks like you’ve just danced your way into that history book!

Mithun Chakraborty has already 3 National Awards

With three National Awards already under his belt, Mithun has proved he’s as comfortable in art-house cinema as he is in masala entertainers. He even shimmied his way into television, judging “Dance India Dance” – because who better to judge dancing than the Disco Dancer himself?

As Mithun prepares to add the Dadasaheb Phalke Award to his trophy cabinet, one thing’s for sure – this disco inferno shows no signs of burning out anytime soon!
