Bengaluru Metro Purple Line Welcomes Commuters
Bengaluru Metro Purple Line, also known as the Whitefield-Challaghatta Metro corridor, officially opened its doors to the public on October 9. This significant development comes as a response to the long-standing demands of commuters who had tirelessly campaigned for the expansion of metro services.
Expansion of the Bengaluru Metro Purple Line
The newly accessible sections of the Purple Line include the 2.1-kilometer Baiyappanahalli-KR Pura stretch and the 2.05-kilometer Kengeri-Challaghatta extension. These additions mark the initial phase of the Purple Line’s expansion, which is set to stretch from Whitefield in the east to Challaghatta in the west, ultimately covering a total distance of 42.85 kilometers.

Operating Hours and Frequency
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has laid out the operational schedule for the Bengaluru Metro Purple Line. Services will commence at 5 a.m. from all terminal stations, ensuring an early start for commuters. The last train from Whitefield (Kadugodi) will depart at 10.45 pm, while the rest of the terminal stations will see the last train at 11.05 pm.
In terms of frequency, during morning peak hours:
The operational headway will be 10 minutes from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Patandur Agrahara.
- 5 minutes from Patandur Agrahara to Mysore Road.
- 3 minutes from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic) to MG Road.
During non-peak hours:
- Trains will run at intervals of 8-10 minutes
During the early morning:
- The frequency will be 15 minutes.
Fare Structure
For commuters traveling from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta on the Purple Line, the fare is estimated to range between ₹57 and ₹60, as reported by the media.
Expanding Bengaluru’s Metro Network
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited expressed its delight in announcing the opening of passenger services for these two sections. The 2.10-kilometer stretch between Krishnarajapura and Baiyappanahalli, with a station at Benniganahalli in between, and the 2.05-kilometer stretch extending from Kengeri to Challaghatta, have now become operational as of October 9. This expansion brings the BMRCL’s operational network to a total of 73.81 kilometers, serving commuters with a network of 66 metro stations, up from the previous 69.66 kilometers.
