A bone ossification test has revealed that one of the accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, who initially claimed to be a minor, is actually an adult. This development came following a Mumbai court order, which remanded the accused, Dharmaraj Kashyap, along with other suspects, to judicial custody until October 21.
Baba Siddique’s accused proven adult
Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and member of the NCP Ajit Pawar faction, was shot dead outside his Mumbai office on Saturday night.
Police swiftly arrested two shooters and a co-conspirator on Sunday, confirming it was a contract killing.
The case took an unexpected turn when Kashyap, one of the shooters from Uttar Pradesh, claimed to be 17 years old in court. The prosecution contested this claim, presenting an Aadhaar card showing his birth year as 2003, indicating he was 21. However, discrepancies in the name on the card and lack of other documentation led the magistrate to order the bone test.
Other accused in Baba Siddique murder case
In a parallel development, Mumbai police arrested a 28-year-old man from Pune, allegedly involved in the murder conspiracy along with his brother Shubham Lonkar.
A third shooter, Shiv Kumar alias Shiva Gautam, remains at large. Police have also identified Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, 21, as the alleged mastermind behind the murder.
