Indian Railways is set to enhance travel options for general passengers. It is to be done by introducing two non-air conditioned trains with modern amenities. These trains will feature a push-pull configuration. Here, the locomotives at both ends of the train are used simultaneously, with a single driver in control. This push-pull method enables faster movement and reduces station stoppage time. It also enhances the overall efficiency of train operations.
These trains are being introduced on routes with consistently high passenger demand. It specifically targets destinations like Patna and Mumbai. While there is a possibility of extending this service to southern routes, the final decision is yet to be confirmed.
Key Features of the New Trains
Each non-AC push-pull train will consist of 22 coaches. It includes 12 sleeper coaches, eight unreserved coaches, and two luggage vans. In total, there will be 1,834 berths and seats available for passengers. Both locomotives will have 5,500 HP capacity, contributing to faster and more efficient travel.

These new trains are equipped with modern amenities, including a jerk-free ride. CCTV surveillance, a passenger information system, electronic destination boards, mobile charging points at each seat, and accessible toilets with a pressurized flushing system. The goal is to enhance the overall travel experience and provide faster service at an affordable cost to general passengers.

The modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches are being produced at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. These non-AC trains aim to offer upgraded amenities and travel speeds similar to the Vande Bharat trains, catering to common passengers at a more reasonable fare.
A Cost-Effective Travel Option
The push-pull train configuration allows for versatility in hauling AC coaches based on passenger demand. With 22 coaches in each train, the total estimated cost is nearly Rs 60 crore, offering a cost-effective and comfortable travel option for passengers.
