BJP’s Second List for Madhya Pradesh Elections Includes Three Union Ministers

BJP’s Second List |  Madhya Pradesh Elections

Madhya Pradesh Elections: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its second list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh State Elections. The list includes the names of three Union Ministers, namely Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Faggan Singh Kulaste. This announcement came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive gathering of BJP workers in Bhopal.

Union Ministers in the Fray for Madhya Pradesh Elections

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will contest from Dimani.
  • Prahlad Patel, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, will run from Narsingpur.
  • Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Rural Development and Steel, has been nominated for the Niwas seat.
  • Notably, this marks Narendra Singh Tomar’s return to Vidhan Sabha elections after a two-decade hiatus, having last won the assembly polls from Gwalior in 2003.

BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has been included in the list and will contest from the Indore-1 seat. His inclusion effectively ends any possibility of his son Akash receiving a ticket. Akash had faced controversy in 2019 when he attacked a civic body official in Indore with a cricket bat.

Lok Sabha Members in the Mix

  • Four Lok Sabha members have found their names on the list. Ganesh Singh, a four-time MP from Satna, will contest from his current seat.
  • Riti Pathak, a second-time sitting MP from the Sidhi Lok Sabha seat, has been given a ticket for the Sishi assembly seat.
  • Four-time Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh will run from Jabalpur-West.
  • Uday Pratap Singh, a third-time MP from the Hoshangabad seat, will be in the fray from the Gadarwara seat in Narsinghpur district.

Changing Political Landscape

The BJP’s strategy in Madhya Pradesh mirrors its approach in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Both of them are currently under Congress’s rule. In Telangana, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy may also contest the assembly polls.

Madhya Pradesh is one of five states scheduled to hold elections later this year. Others are Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram. Currently, only Mizoram is governed by the BJP. In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress came to power in Madhya Pradesh. It was with Kamal Nath serving as Chief Minister. However, the BJP returned to power in 2020 after Jyotiraditya Scindia. It was along with 22 MLAs, switched sides, leading to a change in government.

The BJP’s second list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh elections features prominent Union Ministers, Lok Sabha members, and political figures. It highlights the party’s strong intent to secure victory in the state elections.
