Nestled in the heart of Malleswaram, the New Krishna Bhavan stirred quite the buzz on Tuesday, drawing in hordes of loyal patrons. Shockingly, the restaurant will permanently shut its doors on December 6.
The restaurant was established in 1954 by Ramakrishna Prabhu and then passed on to his son Sundar R. Prabhu. It is currently owned by his son Sunil. S Prabhu. Just like the previous ownership, which had traveled through generations, the workers at the restaurant also have been around for just as long.
Mr.Prabhu stated, “We have been in business for almost 70 years now, and we want to venture into different paths. We love this place, but honestly, we are a bit tired and exhausted. Our employees, who have served us for years, feel the same way. One of them is Ramamurthy, our 72-year-old cook who worked here for 40 years.”
The restaurant management has yet to make a decision on what they plan to do next, but they’re ready to keep all options up. Right now, they’re trying to find their current staff members new jobs at other restaurants.
Located on Sampige Road, the restaurant maintained its popularity among other iconic restaurants in the region, like Janatha Hotel and CTR. The owner said the success of the restaurant was due to the menu, which featured items that were common in every household, like idli with sambar, akki roti, neer dosa, and ragi mudde with salary. It has a loyal customer base that has always kept coming back for more, with even more people trying the delicacies offered by New Krishina Bhavan. Actor Rajkumar, his son Raghavendra Rajkumar, and a few other politicians also visited the restaurant frequently, according to management.
Mr. Prabhu thanked loyal customers and dedicated employees. He even said, “I spent my entire day here, going home only for dinner. I will miss those days once we shut shop. “
