PM Modi congratulates ‘his friend’ Trump on projected victory, says ‘looking forward to…’

As vote counting trends indicate a Republican victory in the U.S. presidential election, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his apparent return to the presidency.

PM Modi congratulates Donald Trump on his victory

“Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory,” PM Modi posted on X. “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.”

According to current projections, Trump’s campaign has achieved significant gains in battleground states, with Republicans reportedly gaining advantage in all seven swing states – a dramatic shift from the 2020 election results.

Here’s what Donald Trump said in his victory speech:

Addressing supporters as favourable projections emerged, Donald Trump characterized the outcome as a “magnificent victory for the American people.” He referenced the reported July 13 assassination attempt, stating, “God spared my life for a reason.”

“We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders, we made history for a reason tonight,” Trump declared. “We have achieved the most incredible political win. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body.”

A shoutout to Elon Musk

The projected Republican victory appears to extend beyond the presidency, with the party reportedly gaining control of the Senate and leading in House races.

In his speech, Trump acknowledged his running mate JD Vance, his wife Melania Trump, and his children for their support throughout the campaign. He also recognized Tesla CEO and X platform owner Elon Musk, who has publicly supported his campaign.

[Note: Final election results are still being tabulated in several states.]
