Ratan Naval Tata, the legendary chairman emeritus of the Tata Group, passed away late Wednesday night at the age of 86. He had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

Tata, widely regarded as one of India’s most influential business leaders, led the Tata Group to unprecedented heights during his tenure. Under his stewardship, the conglomerate expanded its global footprint and diversified into various sectors, while maintaining its commitment to social responsibility.

In a heartfelt statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran described Tata as “a mentor, guide, and friend.” He lauded Tata’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, noting that his leadership had left an indelible mark on the Tata Group and the nation.

Tata’s philanthropic endeavours were equally noteworthy. His initiatives in education, healthcare, and sustainability touched the lives of millions and left a lasting legacy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Tata, calling him a “visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”

“He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better,” PM Modi said.

‘Ratan Tata was a man with a vision’, says Rahul Gandhi

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also expressed his condolences, acknowledging Tata’s vision and his significant contributions to business and philanthropy. “Ratan Tata was a man with a vision. He has left a lasting mark on both business and philanthropy,” he wrote on X.

In recognition of his immense contributions to the nation, the Maharashtra government has announced a state funeral for Ratan Tata. His body will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts for public viewing before being cremated at the Worli crematorium.

In his last social media post, Tata thanked his well-wishers for their concern about his health. He assured them that he was in good spirits and undergoing routine medical check-ups.
