Gujarat’s Economic Significance

S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister acknowledged the remarkable economic contributions of Gujarat. Speaking at an event leading up to the 10th Edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, he lauded Gujarat’s reputation as an economic powerhouse. He highlighted the state’s entrepreneurial spirit. He also praised it for taking calculated risks, and eagerness to explore global opportunities.

Jaishankar underscored Gujarat’s long-standing role as an economic leader in India. He commended the people of Gujarat for their legendary entrepreneurship. Their readiness to take on risks, and their eagerness to seize global opportunities is great.

Gujarati Influence Worldwide

S. Jaishankar went on to mention the global reach of the Gujarati community, noting that there are virtually no countries in the world without a Gujarati presence. He even humorously speculated that this global network might be why the foreign affairs minister is elected to parliament from Gujarat.

Highlighting Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s economic landscape, Jaishankar emphasized that the state’s economic events held special significance. Investors and stakeholders coming to Gujarat not only assess India’s current performance but also look ahead to the country’s future prospects.

Key Economic Initiatives Linked to Gujarat

Jaishankar shed light on significant economic initiatives associated with Gujarat. He mentioned the state’s crucial position as the Indian endpoint of the India – Middle East – Europe economic corridor, a focal point during the recent G20 summit. Additionally, he noted the International North–South transport corridor gaining momentum, with Gujarat’s coast playing a vital role.

India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor agreement, signed by several countries including India, the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union at the G20 summit, comprises two separate corridors. The East corridor connects India to West Asia/Middle East, while the Northern corridor connects West Asia/Middle East to Europe.

Jaishankar highlighted the I2U2 initiative, which focuses on hybrid energy parks and food parks, with plans for their development in Gujarat. He stressed that these projects align with India’s energy and food production goals, underlining Gujarat’s vital role in achieving these objectives.

Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit

The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit marks a significant milestone in Gujarat’s transformation from a ‘preferred investment destination’ to a ‘Gateway to the Future.’ This event encompasses various segments, including the curtain raiser, interactive sessions, and discussions with Heads of Missions.
