Indian Railways to Introduce Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains in 2024: Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Shares New Photos

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled new images of the upcoming ‘Concept train – Vande Bharat (sleeper version)’ on social media. These innovative sleeper trains are scheduled to debut in 2024 and are poised to transform long-distance rail travel in India.

The introduction of Vande Bharat sleeper trains represents a significant advancement for the Indian Railways. These high-speed trains will offer passengers the convenience of overnight travel while covering vast distances. Each Vande Bharat Express sleeper train is engineered to reach speeds of 160 km per hour and will feature 16 bogies, accommodating approximately 887 passengers.

Ambitious Plans for Expansion

Indian Railways has ambitious plans for the Vande Bharat fleet. Out of a total of 75 planned Vande Bharat rakes, some will serve as Chair Car versions, while the remainder will operate as Sleeper versions. The railway authority is also in the process of manufacturing 400 Vande Bharat trains (Sleeper version) with the assistance of selected Technology Partners. Furthermore, Budget 2023-24 proposes an impressive 8000 Vande Bharat Coaches.

World-Class Comfort and Features

Equipped with world-class amenities, the Vande Bharat Express promises passengers a comfortable and enjoyable journey. The train has been designed to meet international standards, ensuring that passengers have access to the finest services throughout their trip.

The first Vande Bharat Express made its debut on February 15, 2019, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This train, running between New Delhi and Varanasi, was manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. It stands as a testament to the ‘Make-In-India’ initiative, highlighting India’s prowess in engineering and manufacturing.

Rapid Development and Success

The journey towards creating indigenous semi-high-speed train sets commenced in mid-2017, and in just 18 months, the ICF Chennai accomplished the remarkable feat of completing Train-18. In January 2019, India’s first semi-high-speed train was officially named Vande Bharat Express. Notably, the train achieved an impressive maximum speed of 180 kmph on the Kota-Sawai Madhopur section.
